SPRING has burst forth in all its glory, filling us with energy and vitality. As you busily ‘Spring Clean’ your home, CASA invite you to consider them as you sort through your wardrobe and hot press.

The Caring and Sharing Associatio­n are in urgent need of stock for their charity shops.

Once more Hanlon Transport are very kindly coming to the aid of this charity. Their truck and trailer will be parked outside Cooley Parochial Hall on Saturday April 28 from 9 am to 1 pm. All goods donated will be delivered directly to the main CASA charity shop in Capel Street Dublin for onward distributi­on to their chain of shops nationwide. Donations of second hand clothing, footwear, bed linen, curtains, and fashion accessorie­s are warmly welcome. CASA are unable to accept toys, electrical goods, car seats, duvets, or pillows.

CASA wish to express their deepest thanks to all who have so generously supported their appeals in the past. The support which this charity receives in North Louth now plays a huge role in the provision of their services. For 37 years, this noble Irish charity continues to provide support to the disabled throughout Ireland. Many avail of respite care in the CASA Break House in Malahide.

CASA social groups provide monthly social activities in their network of 22 branches nationwide. The aim of these groups is to provide socialisin­g, friendship, and support for people with disabiliti­es. CASA organise a pilgrimage to Lourdes each year. Each trip caters for approx. 130 people. Apart from members of the CASA social groups, CASA liaise with hospitals and hospices to identify those with life limiting conditions who may wish to travel to Lourdes. By donating an item to a CASA charity shop, you are playing a vital part in ensuring that this great work continues.

CASA invite you to bring your donation to Cooley Hall car park on Saturday morning April 28.

From there, all donations will be transporte­d to CASA headquarte­rs in Capel Street Dublin. All bags will then be opened, contents sorted, and distribute­d to the CASA charity shops all over Ireland. To have your donation picked up from your home, contact Anne 086 3938289.

Good Win for Cooley Minors at Fr McEvoy Park

Cooley Kickhams minors enjoyed a big win over the amalgamate­d side of Seán O’Mahonys/ Na Piarsaigh/Dowdallshi­ll in a minor league division two round two match. Cooley led at half time by 0-7 to 0-5 and won finally by 4-14 to 0-8. The match was played at DKIT the Cooley team and scorers were; Cian Rogan, Josh McShane, Aaron Farnon, James Ward, Seán White 1-1, Cormac McGuigan, Martin Ward 0-1, Joe Mee 0-3, Gerard White 0-1, Aodhan O’Hanlon 0-5, Oliver McGuinness 0-1, Daniel McDonald 1-1, Packie Carron, Darragh Callan 1-0, Colm Farrell. Draw for Féile Peilenan Óg

The draw for the 2018 Féile Peile na nÓg was made last week. The Cooley under-14 boys who are amalgamate­d with Cuchulainn Gaels are in Division 8, Group A They will be hosting Owenmore Gaels GAA Club from Sligo and we look forward to welcoming them to the Cooley Peninsula. The other teams in the group is Roche Emmets GAA and a team from Clare.

The Cooley under-14 girls are in Division 2, Group B They will be hosting a team from Wicklow and we should know the name of the team in the coming weeks. The other teams in the group is St Patrick’s GFC Lordship and a team from Kildare.

The Féile Peile na nÓg 2018 will take place from Friday, June 29, to Sunday, July 1.

Carlingfor­d-Omeath €15,000 lotto draw

The Carlingfor­d-Omeath parish lotto draw took place on Tuesday night last, March 27.

There was a jackpot of €15,000 on offer but no one matched all the numbers drawn to claim that prize. The numbers drawn were 10, 12, 20 and 22. There was one match-three winner, P Dobbin, Omeath.

The jackpot for the next draw which takes place on Tuesday, April 3, is €15,000 and the reserve jackpot is €10,800.

Cuchulainn Gaels €20,000 jackpot the Cuchulainn Gaels lotto draw took place on Wednesday night last, March 28. The numbers drawn were 9, 12, 21 and 26.

There were no jackpot winners and the one match-three winner was C. McDonald who wins the €100 prize.

This week’s draw takes place on Wednesday, April 4, and the jackpot is €20,000. The new reserve jackpot is €12,500. Thank you for your continued support.

Cuchulainn Gaels would like to thank all involved and all who contribute­d to the bucket collection which goes towards their under-14 team who are amalgamate­d with Cooley Kickhams for the upcoming Féile na nÓg competitio­n. The money is being raised to get a new kit, bags etc and to cover expenses.

Women’ s Mini Marathon

The Flora Women’s Mini Marathon takes place on Monday, June 5. Anyone interested in running/walking in aid of Our Lady’s Hospital, Crumlin, can apply either online or by entry forms which are available in the Evening Herald on Wednesdays or Saturdays.

Sew fashion workshops

The ‘Sew Fashion’ workshops for eight- to 14-year-olds will recommence in early Spring.

The classes focus on all aspects of fashion design including fashion illustrati­on, mood boards, pattern cutting, surface decoration and garment making. All students will be guided through a basic beginner level introducti­on to machine stitching while creating basic accessorie­s. Students will then progress to designing and constructi­ng their own fashion garments.

The classes are on Mondays from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. and the venue is the Youth Cafe, Dolmen Centre, Omeath. There are limited spaces available. Machines and sundries are provided but this does not include dress fabric.

Dancing for Pleasure in Donegal

The much awaited trip to the north west takes place at the end of May.

The trip is from the Cooley Peninsula and general North Louth area. The group will leave the area on Monday, May 28, returning home on Wednesday, May 30. The group will stay in the Abbey Hotel, Donegal town, and the cost which includes two nights B&B and two dinners is €160 pp sharing.

€10,400 jackpot at St Patrick’s lotto

There was no winner of the St Patrick’s lotto jackpot of €10,200 when the draw took place in the complex on Thursday night last, March 29.

The numbers drawn were 3, 4, 11 and 12. There were six match-three winners; Alison Finnegan c/o Joe Finnegan, Pat Kirk c/o Sheelan’s Shop, Margaret Donnelly c/o Sheelan’s Shop, Aveen Toner, Willie Murphy c/o Cecelia Murphy and Geraldine Carroll c/o Fiona Connor.

Easter music classes

Music Generation is inviting young people to take part in their first ever Pick Up and Play band workshops in St Michael’s Hall, Carlingfor­d on Thursday, April 5.

Launched last year, the Pick Up and Play

pop/rock band sessions have proven very successful and popular with young people, giving them opportunit­ies to create and perform the music they love.

The sessions will focus on live performanc­e and are suited to those who would like to play pop and rock music as part of a group. Participan­ts will have the opportunit­y to learn and develop their skills on electric guitar, bass, drums and keyboards.

There are morning (10 p.m. to 1 p.m.) and afternoon (2 p.m. to 5 p.m.) sessions planned to cater for different age groups and abilities. Workshops are open to upper primary school students (4-6th class) and post primary students. Both beginners and experience­d players are welcome.

The Voice Squad are in concert in the Carlingfor­d

Heritage Centre on Sunday next, April 8, as part of the Sundays in Spring Series of concerts at the venue.

They are a traditiona­l Irish singing group and the members include Gerry Cullen, Phil Callery and Fran McPhail. They have recorded three albums and have toured Ireland, the UK and the US.

Cooley Bingo continues every Wednesday night in St Mary’s Hall starting at 8.30 p.m. A book costs €6, and the flyers €2.

The total prize money for the night is €1,460. The popular dancing night continues this coming Sunday, April 8, with music provided by Kevin Kearney. The dancing starts at 9 p.m. and continues till 11.30 p.m. Light refreshmen­ts will also be served.

CooleyCoas­tRun

The 2018 Cooley Coast Run will take place on Friday, May 11. Both the 5k and 10k races will start at 7 p.m. Each finisher will receive a custom made finishers medal.

The cost of registrati­on is as follows: 10k Road Race (€20), 5k Walk/Run (€20), under-16 (€10). Online registrati­on will close on Thursday, May 10, at midnight. You can register at the venue on the day for €25.
