The Voice Squad to open Sundays In Spring concerts

THE Sunday in Spring concert series gets underway on Sunday, March 8, in the Carlignfor­d Heritage Centre with a special performanc­e by Gerry Cullen, Phil Callery and Fran McPhail, aka The Voice Squad.

This world-renowned trio have worked with such artists as The Chieftains, Sinead O’Connor, Elvis Costello and the late great Liam O’Flynn, as well as recording three albums of their own and touring Ireland, Europe and the USA. They had the honour of performing when the Special Olympics were held in Ireland in 2003.

They recently performed at the Gradam Ceoil awards concert in Belfast when they joined award winner Padraigín Ní Uallacháin on stage to perform her beautiful compositio­n “Gleann Na nDeor”.

Artistic co-directors, Zoe Conway and John McIntyre, have put together a diverse programme with the support of Create Louth. Other con- certs to look forward to include performanc­es by Karan Casey, Niall and Caoibhín Vallely and Cormac Breathnach in a concert rememberin­g those from Louth who lost their lives in the Spanish Civil War; the Armagh Pipers’ Club; fiddler Jim McKillop and a classical concert with baritone Aris Nadiran.
