Suspected cannabis growhouse find

CANNABIS PLANTS WITH ESTIMATED STREET VALUE OF €30,000 DISCOVERED

GARDAI from the Dundalk Drugs unit uncovered 22 cannabis plants, reported to have a street value of €30,000, during the search of a property along the Red Barns Road on Thursday last.

The search also led to the discovery of what is believed to have been ‘ cannabis saplings’ along with ecstacy tablets valued at €150 and cocaine with a street value of €350.

Weighing scales and other drug parapherna­lia were also reported to have been found during the search.

A 45 year old man was arrested and questioned at Dundalk garda station.

Meanwhile, quick thinking gardai gave chase when they came across a break in at a business premises along the Coes Road in the early hours of Friday morning last. A garda patrol car was in the area when they heard the alarm activated on a building.

One man was seen running from the property, and was pursued by gardai for a time before escaping. A window was broken to gain entry to the building, and the premises had been ransacked inside.

Gardai are also investigat­ing the theft of office and computer equipment from a car parked on Francis Street on Monday last. The theft occurred between 4.45pm and 5pm. CCTV is being examined as part of the enquiries.

A fire at the pitch ‘n’ putt facility on Hoey’s Lane is also being investigat­ed by gardai.

A building on the site was reported to have been targetted on Saturday evening in what gardai say was a ‘malicious’ fire.
