Stop, look and listen for Junior Wardens!
JUNIOR School Wardens from CBS Primary in Dundalk and Tallanstown National School perfected their ‘Stop, Look and Listen’ technique as they took delivery of their official new uniform!
The Junior School Warden service is a nationwide initiative, introduced almost 50 years ago, in which fifth and sixth class pupils ensure that their fellow students are safe when crossing the road.
It is part of a drive by Louth County Council to keep children safe outside school gates and is designed to provide safe crossing facilities in the vicinity of primary schools where a 50km/h speed limit applies adjacent to the school.
Road Safety Officer for Louth County Council, Adrian O’Sullivan acknowledged the ongoing work of the Junior School Wardens throughout the school year.
‘ There are approximately thirty pupils in each school acting as Junior School Wardens in both Tallanstown National School and CBS Primary School.’
He added: ‘Each of these pupils does a superb job, in all types of weather conditions, to ensure that their fellow students are kept safe crossing the roads after school each day” said Adrian. ‘We are aware of and are very grateful for the commitment given by the fifth and sixth year pupils together with the support of Principal Patricia McKeever, Principal Brendan Murphy and An Garda Síochána’ added Mr O’Sullivan.
