Lumpers now open with free courtesy bus

THE famous and Cooley’s oldest bar The Lumpers is now under new ownership with Frankie McRory branching out into the licensed trade. Frankie has operated the very successful Sevens Taxis incorporat­ing coach and cab hire in the wider Dundalk area for many years, and plans to develop The Lumpers as a Pub of Destinatio­n for the like of the many walkers, cyclists and others who engage in mountain related pursuits who visit the area and journey to and from Carlingfor­d, while also retaining the cosy character of the premises for those in the area and providing a Courtesy bus. This service extends to the entire Cooley peninsula and greater Dundalk area and is available Thursday to Sunday.

Customers can be picked up from home, pub or any other location. This service can also be prebooked from Monday to Wednesday. The service is one of a multi part plan that Frankie is embarking upon which he has begun, involving the revamping and refurbishm­ent of the premises and it’s facilities.

More attraction­s are to be laid on in the way of live entertainm­ent, with music every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, and a regular traditiona­l session Sunday evening.

Appealing to more tastes, card sessions will be run, featuring the like of very popular games like 25. Dancing classes are also to start up if you like to jive.

Sports enthusiast­s will also be well catered for with all the big sporting events shown on television, with big screens to watch the best of the action. This importantl­y started with installing as management, Paddy Flood and Paul Finnegan. The full-time management team are highly experience­d in the trade, and well known in the bar where they have worked for some time. They are well acquainted with the area and the customers and perceptive to their needs and likes.

Frankie with his business knowledge saw the potential opening to cater for the many walkers and those who engage in different recreation­al activities like cycling and what not. There is a very popular route for walkers from near the bar to Carlingfor­d, and more and more will use this route as the weather becomes finer and brighter take to the mountains and the hills.

The bar will provide a range of food and refreshmen­ts, such as tea, coffee, scones and sandwiches to help quench their thirst and satisfy their enhanced appetites. Later management will look at expanding the food menu.

The lounge has been revamped and further improvemen­ts have been undertaken and are to take place. These include a new smoking area at the back.

The car park has been upgraded, and work nears completion to cater for camper vans and caravans, with electricit­y supply points and provision for showering and toilet facilities to be available soon.

The bar has been brightly re-painted, but the old style character has been carefully preserved, so beloved by customers who like the warm, homely atmosphere.

The Lumpers is a bar where all will feel at home, the local seeking company and entertainm­ent in warm and cosy surroundin­gs, or the visitor keen to replenish energy and quench their thirst after strenuous exercise or to freshen up.
