Gardeners be cautious of intruders

-

The weather wouldn’t give the impression that it is time to get into the garden. Here’s hoping that will soon change after a wretched Easter and the protracted spell of rain coupled with the cold and sleet and snow thrown in for good measure.

But like most everything, a return to gardening comes with a health warning. Or more precisely a warning to be careful and not to leave yourself exposed to thieves who are already showing that they are ready to take advantage of an unguarded moment.

There have been a number of instances that the Gardai have become aware of in the Haggardstown area and have cautioned householders to be wary and take precautions. So they don’t offer any un-intended invitation to intruders to trespass on their property and as a consequence make off with valuable property, such as lawnmowers or other garden tools and equipment.

The precautions urged include not leaving equipment lying out in the garden or about the house, and at all times to keep sheds and gardens locked.

It’s not thought that the predators have been successful in making off with tools and equipment in the recent incidents.

But it is within the thieves capability to strike at any time, and to make it as difficult as possible for them householders and gardeners are asked to be very security conscious and not to take any chances and be as vigilant as possible.

If they notice anything suspicious, either an individual or a car in the area, they are advised to contact the Gardai.
