Cool Callan sinks Nicks

DIVISION 3 FOOTBALL LEAGUE

-

ST KEVINS made a blistering start to the Division 3 League campaign when they recorded a comfortable victory over St Nicholas at Darver on Friday night.

Yet again it was young attacker Cian Callan who grabbed all the headlines as he scored his second hat-trick of the season when finishing with a personal tally of 3-8.

The Nicks, who were marking their return to Division 3 football, battled well throughout the game but were unable to match the strength of the Philipstown men or the scoring power of Callan.

The Kevins played with the advantage of the wind in the first half and they made it count by firing in a total of 3-7 with the managing just two points in response. Callan certainly made his mark in that opening period as he scored goals for his side.

The Nicks used the elements in the second half to ensure they were more competitive and they gained some consolation when Philip Kirwan scored their goal while John Heeney and Jason O’Boyle chipped in with points from play.

However, the Kevins were not to be denied and they sealed a satisfactory start to the campaign when substitute Andrew Campbell scored their fourth goal.
