Billy boots Blues into fourth round

WITH the cup their realistic target for glory this season, the champions cruised into the fourth round with this comprehensive win on Friday night when striker Billy Smith was their scoring hero with a hat-trick.
They had their passage virtually assured at the interval when three goals to the good, and went on to chalk up three more in the second half as they proved too strong for opponents playing three grades below them.
They took the lead through Smith in the first 15 minutes, and extended it with two more goals in the closing stages of the half, supplied by central defender Chris Caulfield and Gary Clarke.
Thomas McShane put the outcome beyond doubt with a cracking fourth goal for the champions that flew in off the underside of the crossbar as he let fly from a tight angle when Adrian Rafferty glanced a corner kick with his head across the face of goal beyond the far post with only six minutes gone in the second-half.
It was then left to Smith to polish off the win by completing his hat-trick, bursting between two defenders to go clear into the penalty box and rounded the Donacarney goalkeeper before tapping into the empty net with a defender trying desperately to prevent him in the 69th minute.
He similarly sprinted clear into the box to score his third goal when he shot past Pics: Aidan Dullaghan the goalkeeper inside the near post.
