Shane sets the ‘Tone’ as Glenmore excel

-

GLENMORE athletes were true legends last weekend as 29 hardy souls turned out to represent the club in The Cooley Legends Half Marathon and 10k race.

And Shane Toner ensured the green singlet was at the head of affairs throughout the gruelling mountain run, taking first place in an eye-watering time of 1:24:40.

Tadhg Leahy made it a Glenmore double winning the 10k event in a time of 45:57.

Shane was followed home by Patrick White in 1:38:35 making him first male over 40, Kenneth McBride (1:41:32) and Lorraine Dunne (1:52:39) who was third female overall. Other age category prizes were won by Fiona McQuade, Sarah Dooney and Margaret Woods.

In the 10k starting from the Long Woman’s Grave Lloyd Byrne (50:37) was second over the line for Glenmore followed by Kevin Harnett (51:23). Katie Mallon was the first Glenmore female to cross the line in 56:58.

Rose White achieved a very proud second in her age category, while a very special mention goes to Joanne Payne who chose to take on the 10k distance for the first time since completing 0-5k training at Glenmore’s Operation Bush4mation in January.

All Glenmore athletes successfully completed both races despite the mucky terrain.

The legendary Johnny Mc Cabe again organised a very tough but hugely enjoyable race.

Next on the Glenmore calendar is the Patsy Kelly 5k on Saturday 14th April, followed by the DKIT Dundalk 10k on Wednesday 25th April.

Both races will be great preparation for The Glenmore Challenge 10mile and 10k road race on 9th June. For further details checkout www. facebook.com/Glenmorechallenge or register online via MyRunResults. com.
