Chaplin’s cast Indian sign on league leaders

-

WHILE the clash between Mallon Property and The Embassy was postponed due to player unavailability, the two Tuborg Snooker League fixtures that did go ahead more than made up for it last Wednesday night.

In the first clash league leaders Gonnelly Signs took on bottom of the pile Charlie Chaplin’s and it was Chaplins who raced into an early lead when Justin McArdle showed why he is one of the most decorated men in the history of the league, playing great stuff to beat Steve McBride.

In the second frame Gonnelly Signs bounced back following as Mark Laverty eventually ground down Kevin McDonald in a real slow burner.

In the third match David J Mcardle was again in scintillating form for Gonnelly Signs as he easily overcame Patsy Muckian to leave the leaders with a 2-1 advantage going into the doubles.

Chaplin’s have been very much the draw specialists and their battling qualities came to the fore again as Justin McArdle and Kevin McDonald easily beat Aaron Callan and Mickey Kelly to force a well-earned draw. However, Chaplin’s will have to start turning these gutsy draws into wins soon if they are to make the play-offs.

In the second match of the night Cusken Ltd took on Nature’s Water and first up for Cusken Ltd was James Coburn who took on Alan Thompson of Nature’s Water. A fine display of break building from Coburn, including a superb 45-point visit, quickly put Cusken’s in front.

It was to get better for Cusken’s when Paddy Hayes rolled back the years to beat Joe McEnaney.

However Nature’s Water fought their way back into it when Ken Byrne beat Liam Johnson in a fine frame in which both players gave their all.

But in the doubles Cusken’s secured victory when Liam Johnson returned to play with Keith Morris to defeat Joe McEnaney and Tomas Geroc, securing a 3-1 win for Cusken’s, sending them up to third in the table.
