Cooley Under 12 Girls Big League Win

-

The cold weather didn’t deter the hardy Cooley under 12 girls as they opened their 2018 league campaign on Friday night last with a home match on Thursday evening against Kilkerley Emmet’s. This was our first match on the new pitch and it proved a successful one with the girls thoroughly enjoying this fine facility, and the supporters enjoying the fine views.

The back bone of the team is the girls who were with the under 12 squad of 2017, complemented now with the girls who have progressed from the 2017 under 10’s and new members from Omeath.

The girls started strong and settled quickly into the game. Lucy White and Anna Dawson won ball in midfield with our forwards Saibh Morgan, Ciara Murphy, Eilis Murphy, Myah Ward and Chloe McCarragher all taking advantage and their scores.

Chloe Boyle took up the job between the posts for the first half, and her strong kick outs were well received by her team mates. She was well protected by the reliable Orlaith Daly, Niamh Donnelly, Sarah Mallon, Stacey Murray and Tara White who worked relentlessly to win ball. Our subs Ellen Callan, Rosie Smartt, Annie Malone and Annie Dunne all enjoyed game time and contributed to a fine team display on the night.

Myah Ward opened the score with a well worked goal, adding another 2 points in the first half. Chloe McCarragher took scores well and was rewarded with 3 fine goals before half time. Ciara Murphy scored a fine point and then made way for Ellen Callan who took goal scores in both halves. Rosie Smartt, Annie Malone and Annie Dunne took to the field before half time and worked hard for the team tackling and following up on all moves.

In the second half Cooley proved too strong for their opponents. Ciara Murphy and Lucy White scored points from play with Siabh Morgan and Myah Ward securing additional goals. Anna Dawson relished her time outfield having played at number 1 for all the 2017 season.

Chloe Boyle played outfield in the second half with Chloe McCarragher lining out in goals and both seemed to enjoy the experience. While our forwards gain recognition for the scores this was a strong team display across all positions on the field. A rewarding night for our first outing of 2018 season, thanks to the mentors, parents and supporters who came along on the night. The Cooley girls won well on the night.

The Cooley squad was; Sarah Mallon, Niamh Donnelly, Stacey Murray, Eilis Murphy, Siabh Morgan, Ciara Murphy, Anna Dawson, Myah Ward, Orlaith Daly, Lucy White, Chloe McCarragher, Tara White, Ellen Callan, Chloe Boyle, Rosie Smartt, Annie Dunne, Annie Malone.
