Coláiste Chú Chulainn will NOT be ready for September intake

THIRD PARTY JUDICIAL REVIEW REJECTED BY HIGH COURT ON FRIDAY

- BY OLIVIA RYAN

The long awaited new Coláiste Chú Chulainn school building will not be opened for the September intake of students, Louth County Council informed members at their monthly meeting yesterday (Monday).

The news emerged as Director of Services, Frank Pentony confirmed that a judicial review being sought by a ‘ third party’ over plans for an ESB sub-sta- tion had been rejected by the High Court on Friday last.

The local authority are the lead partner on the project to build a 1,000 student school at the Marshes.

Mr. Pentony said work had been continuing on the rest of the building project while they awaited the outcome of the legal process, but he added that progress towards completion had been affected.

The legal action was being taken by residents of Bishop’s Court, who raised concerns about the proximity of the ESB sub station to a number of homes in the estate.

Works on the ESB sub station has been suspended following the legal intervention. But the Director of Services said that work can now resume.

Mr. Pentony said that the school building had been due to be completed by June 2018, but this had been delayed.

He told the meeting that although the school will not be fully completed by September, Louth County Council were liasing with the Louth Meath Education Training Board (LMETB) to assess if part of the new building can be opened for some students.
