LOST GOAT FOUND DUE TO FACEBOOK

PET GOAT WAS TAKEN FROM GARDEN AND DUMPED ON MOUNTAIN

- By MARGARET RODDY

A pet goat which went missing from her owners’ garden at Ballagan, Greenore was found on a mountain miles away thanks to the power of social media.

And the white goat Rosie’s adventures were captured on Facebook by a number of people, leading to her being reunited with her delighted owners.

Eveline White believes that Rosie was stolen from outside her house. ‘I got home around 8pm on Saturday April 7th and there was no sign of Rosie. Usually she’d come running up to meet you at the door.’

When Rosie didn’t appear later that night, Eveline presumed that she must have followed some neighbouring sheep and didn’t think too much of it.

‘Next morning there was no sign of her, so I was worried as I thought she must have been stolen, so I put up a post on Facebook that she had gone missing.’

Soon Eveline got a message that Rosie had been spotted by a group of cyclists at Clermont Cairn.

‘Keith and myself drove up to the mast and spent about three hours looking for her, even going over to Flagstaff but there was no sign of her.’

A disheartened Eveline returned home and put up a new post, sharing her disappointment that she was unable to find Rosie.

‘ The post was shared over 250 times and eventually we got a message from a girl in Ravensdale saying that her mother had seen Rosie.’

‘On Monday morning, we headed to Ravensdale, where my sister Edel lives, and we drove up the mountain and found Rosie.’

An absolutely delighted Eveline says she was so relieved to be reunited with Rosie.

‘She’s a real pet, just like a dog. We’ve got her three years, since she was a baby,’ says animal lover Eveline.

‘I am so glad to have her back and it seems she had quite an adventure as there are photos on Facebook of her with a group of cyclists and a photographer who took a picture of her said she wanted to get into their car.’

While Eveline is at a loss as to why anyone would steal a goat from a garden and then dump it on the top of a mountain, she is relieved to have Rosie back home.
