-

The family of Dundalk native Dr. Pearse Lyons held a memorial mass for the Alltech founder and president last weekend.

The mass was held near to Alltech’s European Bioscience Centre in Dunboyne, County Meath.

Pearse Lyons, the Dundalk-born entrepreneur who founded the hugely successful Alltech animal nutrition group, died in Kentucky in early March, at the age of 73.

Mr Lyons had been unwell since November when he entered hospital in the US for routine heart surgery.

He had suffered complications during his recovery. He was laid to rest on St Patrick’s Day in his adopted city of Lexington, Kentucky.

He had maintained strong links with his hometown over the years, having once taken on the role as grand marshal of the St. Patrick’s day parade.

The memorial mass which took place in St Peters and Pauls, Dunboyne was attended by over 800 family members and friends, including the Taoiseach’s Aide De Con, Ambassadors and opera singer Ronan Tynan, amongst others.

The mass was followed by a reception and celebration of life in Alltech’s Dunboyne office.

A vote of sympathy was also expressed at the monthly meeting of Louth County Council yesterday (Monday) to the family of Dr. Lyons on his recent passing.
