Louth people invited to have their say on Europe

THE people of Louth will get to have their say on the future direction of Europe at a Citizens’ Dialogue event in Meath County Council Offices in Navan, on Thursday, 19 April at 7pm.

The event is part of a nationwide series of citizens’ dialogues organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in partnershi­p with European Movement Ireland and is part of a conversati­on that is taking place across Europe.

Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee TD and Executive Director of European Movement Ireland, Noelle O’Connell will speak at the event.

Speaking at the launch of the process, Minister of State for European Affairs, Helen McEntee TD, said:

‘ The EU must listen to its citizens. I would encourage everyone across Louth to get involved with this dialogue and to feed into the process.’

She explained that input from the people of Louth and across the country is ‘crucial to the future of the European Union.’

In relation the ongoing campaign she added ‘I am committed to ensuring that all voices are heard.’

‘I am looking forward to real engagement and debate and for views to be aired in a constructi­ve manner that will help to inform Government.’

During the dialogue, people will be asked to share their views on how the EU should approach issues as broad as training for the jobs of the future to rural developmen­t.

All of the discussion­s will be recorded and will help formulate Ireland’s contributi­on to the wider EU conversati­on.

Executive Director of European Movement Ireland, Noelle O Connell, said: ‘Now is the time for us to start looking beyond Brexit to what we would like the EU to look like in 20, 30, 40 years’ time.

Ms. O’Connell added: ‘ This is Louth’s chance to shape the sort of Union we need to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.’

The event is free and people from all walks of life are welcome. No prior knowledge of the EU is necessary.
