Signs good for league leaders

-

THE top two clashed in the Tuborg Dundalk Snooker League, with The Embassy bidding to close the gap on leaders Gonnelly Signs.

The Embassy started strongly when a missed brown from Aaron Callan allowed Mickey Ralph in to clear the remaining colours and snatch the first frame.

However, in the second frame Steve McBride beat a brave Gerry Rogers to restore parity for Gonnelly Signs.

In the third David J McArdle continued his fine form beating Dominic O’Connor to put the league leaders 2-1 up on the night.

Then in the doubles David J was joined by Mickey Kelly and they played great stuff to seal the 3-1 win, beating Dominic O’Connor and David Moran.

In the next match Cusken Ltd took on Mallon Property with Liam Johnston of Cuskens facing Mallon’s Stephen O’Hanlon in the opener.

After a cagey start it was O’Hanlon who gave Mallon Property the early advantage winning a fine frame and it was about to get better for the real estate men when Tiernan Mallon played great stuff to beat Paddy Hayes from Cusken Ltd. Charlie Chaplin’s Justin McArdle.

With their backs to the wall Cusken’s clawed their way back into the match when James Coburn, playing his best snooker for years, beat Brendan O’Hanlon.

That gave Cusken’s the chance to steal a point in the doubles and they did just that when Paddy Hayes and James Coburn beat Patrick McArdle and Anthony Fee.

In the final match of the night Nature’s Water were fast out of the blocks when Alan Thompson beat Kevin McDonald of Charlie Chaplins.

However, Chaplin’s bounced back in the second frame, with Maddy Hoey producing the performance of the night when to sink Joe McEnaney to level matters at one apiece.

Despite the best efforts of Chaplin’s Justin McArdle, Ken Byrne edged a titanic battle to edge Nature’s Water back into the lead, 2-1.

In the doubles Chaplin’s denied Natures Water victory with a fine display from Kevin McDonald and Patsy Muckian, who defeated Alan Thompson and Tomas Geroc.

With Gonnelly Signs the only team to leave with a win on the night, they extended their lead at the top of the table to five points.
