Louth’s Land of Legends tourism plan

APRIL 2003

-

A new tourism marketing initiative for the county is launched by Louth Leader at Knockabbey Castle.

“Louth – Land of Legends” features an attractive promotional brochure and county map.

The magazine-style brochure is endorsed by a number of local celebrities, including The Corrs.

Gerry O’Connor, an internationally-renowned traditional musician, backs the arts scene, while footballer Stephen Staunton highlights the range of adventure sports and activities on offer.

Another soccer player, Gary Kelly endorses Louth as a vibrant sports venue, while professional golfer Des Smyth promotes the county’s golf courses.

Meanwhile, Mairéad McGuinness, journalist and presenter of RTE’s ‘Ear To The Ground’ programme talks about food produce and the many fine restaurants.

Gerry Corr, whose son and daughters form ‘ The Corrs’, officially launches the initiative, while musical entertainment is provided by Gerry O’Connor, Sheila Boylan, Patrick Martin and Rúairí Cunnane.

Tourism promoters and providers are among those present at the 14th century castle.

‘We are the first county in Ireland to use this type of marketing initiative to promote tourism,’ says project officer Alison Russell.

‘We are so lucky in Louth to have such a great number of celebrities and well-known media personalities who are willing to get involved in helping to promote tourism.’

Louth leader secures funding from the Louth County Council Task Force through Peace and Reconciliation 11 to compile the brochure, while the map is funded under the Louth Strategic Initiative 2001.

The new publications are being distributed to tourist information offices nationwide.

All tourism providers are encouraged to collect the brochures and maps from their local tourist office.
