Penalty heartbreak for U-16s

-

HOME FARM DUNDALK 1 1

Home Farm won 6-5 on pens

DUNDALK Girls suffered penalty shootout heartbreak in this playoff to decide second place in the North Dublin League Under-16 table.

The game was played in Lusk on the warmest day of the year so far, with clear blue skies, and it was always going to be a tough game between two evenly matcvhed teams.

The first half started with each teams pushing each other to the limit. Home Farm bossed the first 20 minutes and then Dundalk started to take control until a water break was taken on the 25-minute mark. Shortly after play resumed a Home Farm player took a shot from the edge of the box and scored to give her team a 1-0 half-time lead.

In the second period Dundalk took control and in the 54th minute Caoimhe crossed the ball towards Seona Halligan who provided the final touch for a well-deserved equaliser.

With no further goals, 20 minutes of extra time was played in an attempt to decide the tie, but still there was no breakthrough and in the shootout that followed each team ended up taking eight penalties before the Dublin team eventually prevailed.

Nevertheless, Dundalk can hold their heads high and be proud of a great season and they still have to look forward to the Cup Final against Ashbourne on May 26th, with all support appreciated. DUNDALK: Rachel Mullen, Caoimhe Conroy, Bronagh Mulholland, Rebecca Lambe Fagan, Kerry-Ann Darcy, Aoife Byrne, Sophia McCabe, Beth Hughes, Caoimhe Crichton, Katie Moran, Kerri Clinton, Ayo Adesanya, Grace Ojo, Seona Halligan, Andrea Stewart, Emily and Louise Johnston.
