DUNDALK’S MAD Youth Theatre’s recent performance of the dark comedy ‘DNA’ by Dennis Kelly, proved a big hit with audiences at the Spirit Store. Cast members Cole Cumiskey ,Molly Hand, Luci Watters, Clodagh Vaughan, Hazel Muholland, Cian Geraghty, Darija Martinkute, Erin McAuley, Paul Malone, Scott McHugh, Eabha Nugent, Jessica Woodlock gave a compelling and moving performance in this story which has been likened to the novel ‘Lord of the Flies.’

The play looks at the lives of eleven teenager outcasts who participated in covering up o the bullying of Adam, framing a local postman for their actions.

Chief bully ‘Phil’ played by Cole Cumiskey comes up with a plan to keep the group together through manipulation and violence.

‘In rehearsals we had to overcome a few challenges when approaching the script; we had to fully explore the issues in the play such as bullying, violence, apathy and mental health,’ explains artistic director Kwasie Boyce. ‘We looked at the roles and the type of characters and their lives. So giving the these fictional characters a history through mind mapping helped developed a understanding of why they do the things they did. This helped the young actors stepping into the roles safely and they performed them with confidence.’ The Stormers - See No 3 The Dublin City Ramblers with The Legend of Luke Kelly are at the Four Seasons Hotel, Carlingford on Sunday night, May 13th.
