Presentation night for St Brides GFC

-

Michelle Hoey and Lynda McGee at the St. Brides GFC presentation night in The Lisdoo. ON Saturday night I headed for the Lisdoo where Knockbridge club St. Brides GFC were hosting their annual Presentation night where the senior team were being presented with Intermediate League and the U16s won the Division 3 B League and Championship medals.

I was only in the door when I met up with club chairman Pat Mackin from Ballinlough and vice chairman Tony Hoey form Stonetrough who told me it was a great turn out and they were looking forward to a great night.

I then headed for a table where I caught up with Deirdre McEnteggart from Castlering who was with husband Robbie who is one of the dynamic u16 coaches. They were enjoying the night with James and Ashling McNamara from Lisroland who told me their son Jake plays for the u16s so he’d be bringing home some silverware.

Next I had the pleasure of meeting up with Aileen Hoey from Newtown who was with her dad Enda McGeough from Lisdoo and they were with Maria McShane from Lisdoo who told me it was an honour and privilege to be presenting the Jimmy McShane Cup on behalf of her late father later on.

Heading for an adjacent table I then got talking to my old friend Padraig Keane from Little Ash who was with his wife Frances and Pauline Hoey, mum to Louth footballer Aaron and Padraig told me they were delighted to be there and were looking forward to a lovely night.

Padraig was talking to my old friend Eugene Kirk from Grange who was with his delightful wife Ciara. When I asked Eugene was he associated with the club he said he was just a supporter, never mentioned he had been a player, secretary and selector too.

Not too far away I met up with John Brennan from Carrick Road who was with his wife Frances and told me he’d be presenting the Player of the Year trophy on behalf of Terry Breen. John was having a laugh with Padraig Thornton from Knockbridge who was with wife Ann and said their son Neil was with the u16s and would be getting a medal or two.

Making my way through the crowds I then got talking to Colm and Theresa Smith from Knockbridge who were looking forward to a great night and were in the company of Hon President Paddy Byrne from Knockbridge.

I then had the pleasure of talking to two ladies in the form of Megan Ryan from Manydown Close and Linda Lennon from Latton in Monaghan who told me they were with senior players Garreth Hall and Michael Keane both from Knockbridge and the ladies said it was their first time there and were definitely going to make the best of it.

Making my way through the hall I then had over for a chat with some of the senior players and met up with club Captain Cillian Kirk from Ballinclare who said he was with parents Eamon and Aine. He was sitting with Richard Halpenny from Pauline Hoey and Frances Keane. Ballinlough who was with mum Eithne, Padraig Mackin from Ballinlough who was with Pat, Bernie and Niamh Mackin and the lads told me it was going to be an epic night for sure.

Also in their company was senior player Mark Devin from Summerhill who was there with his mates Patrick Coman from Doylesfort Road and Sarah Murray from Forkhill who wanted to wish Mark and his team mates all the best and were going to make sure he had a mad night.

Finally, before I departed I got a word with Shane Rutledge originally from Ballybay and his wife Fiona who now reside in Knockbridge. Shane who has links with the u16s wanted to congratulate u16 managers Garreth Hall, Michael Keane and Niall Brennan on their great work because they are senior players and managers of the up and coming crop of players and are a real credit to the club.
