It’s Wine O’Clock with comedy

-

THE wedding of the year is set to take place in An Táin Arts Centre on Saturday night courtesy of the talented Newry duo of Rozlyn Sheridan and Teresa McBride whose hit show ‘It’s Wine O’Clock’ has audiences in knots of laughter.

Rozlyn, who is well known to local audiences through her work with Dundalk Musical Society, and partner in comedy Teresa, became an internet hit when they set up a Facebook page to showcase their comic creations ‘Nuala and Noleen’ and a host of other all too true to life characters.

Soon they were getting invitations to perform at weddings and parties, which led them to pen their own sketches which became ‘It’s Wine O’Clock’.

Set in the fictional Ballymuff Hotel, just south of the Border, the action takes place as Seamus, a farmer from South Armagh, is about to tie the knot with Sharon, a Belfast girl he met on Tinder. It’s a shotgun wedding and an array of in-laws and outlaws, Yummy Mummies, grannies and farmers, act as a Greek chorus, commenting on the proceedings.

The result is a hilarious chaotic comedy with involves numerous quick-fire costume changes as Roslyn and Teresa play all the characters.

‘After attending eight weddings last year, I knew that it would be perfect setting to incorporate all the characters that we play. And we were able to link them together with a storyline that has a great twist at the end,’ explains Rozlyn, who runs her own stage school in Newry. ‘

‘It’s Wine O’Clock’ had its first airing in Newry City Hall in March 2017 when the planned three nights run was extended to eight sold-out performances. Since then, it has played to capacity audiences around the country and comes to Dundalk as part of a tour which included six nights at The Mac in Belfast. 5
