Niall Power (45) is the second man to face charges for Irene White murder

THE second man to be charged with the murder of Irene White, who died after a stabbing at her home in Dundalk in 2005, has been sent forward for trial to the Central Criminal Court.

Father of four Niall Power (45) of Gyles Quay, Riverstown, faced his sixth hearing when he appeared at Cloverhill District Court on Thursday last.

The Director of Public Prosecutio­ns has directed trial on indictment and a book of evidence was served on him by Garda Sergeant Michael Sheridan.

Judge Blake told Mr Power that he was being returned for trial at the next term of the Central Criminal Court.

The accused did not indicate how he intends to plead. He was remanded on continuing bail.

He remains on bail in his own bond of €200 with a €3,000 independen­t surety

Judge Blake told Mr Power that he was being returned for trial at the next term of the Central Criminal Court. The accused did not indicate how he will plead. Judge Blake told him he must abide by a number of conditions of bail: sign on three times a week at Dundalk Garda station, not apply for travel documents having already surrendere­d his passport, not leave the jurisdicti­on; reside at his address and abide by a 10pm – 8am curfew and be contactabl­e at all times on a mobile phone.

He was originally charged and was remanded in custody on February 1 following an appearance at Dundalk District Court.

Mr Power is the second man to be brought before the courts over the death of Irene White.

Anthony Lambe, 35, from Annadrumma­n, Castleblay­ney, Co Monaghan was charged in January 2017 with Ms White’s murder and was jailed for life in January this year after pleading guilty at the Central Criminal Court.
