Long Tain March starts journey to town

-

THE Táin March Festival comes to Dundalk next weekend as the marchers who are following the footsteps of Queen Medb’s army complete their epic march across the country.

The marchers have been receiving an enthusiastic welcome in towns and village since setting off from Rathcroghan in Co Roscommon on Friday May 18th.

The Táin March was first held in 2011 as a community walking festival to celebrate and promote the epic tale of the Cattle Raid of Cooley.

It has grown over the years and this year’s march sees a number of Hedge School events taking place for the first time.

Queen Medb’s army descends into Dundalk on Saturday, June 2nd via Ardee and Knockbridge.

The marchers arrive at Oriel Park at 12.30pm where participating children will receive face painting, costumes and practice before a safety briefing.

The march then departs Oriel for Market Square where the great warrior Cuchulainn and his army will be waiting at approximately 2pm.

On Sunday June 3rd, the March will depart the Lumpers, Ballymakellet at 9am and will walk over the mountain, through Maeve’s Gap and finish in Bush at 3pm.

It will conclude with a Hedge School Event in Longs Pub at 4pm.
