Spring concert from the Marist Choir in church

-

THERE’S a treat in store for lovers of choral music when The Marist Choir present what promises to be a lovely concert in St Mary’s (Marist) Church, on Friday May 25 at 7.30pm.

The choir is now over 50 years old and Geraldine McGee a founder member has added to the quality of the choir over the years with her many students members.

This year the choir has a new choir master and conductor in Choon Mon Lee, a graduating student of music from DKIT. He will conduct the choir and they will accompanied by Margaret McAuley on piano and strings. The Choir will be joined by a selection of young soloists, all pupils of Geraldine who are studying in Royal Irish Academy of Music.

These talented young singers have the potential to have successful careers in the opera world in the future. This concert will be a chance for the local audience to get to know them and support them as they have Tara Erraught and Ben McAteer now rising international opera stars. Tara was a member of the Marist Choir for many years while a student of Geraldine McGee and later Veronica Dunne at RIAM.

The programme features a selection of favourite hymns and choral pieces.

Tickets are available from Rosetta 087 7415815, choir members and at the door on the night form 7pm. 2

There’s still time to see the Art as Exchange exhibition in the new community room in the Long Walk Shopping Centre, running until Friday.
