Dundalk-based company Nova Leah took home the overall Grand Prix becoming Startup of the Year 2018 scooping a €10,000 cash prize. The company was also named gold winner in the Emerge-Tech Startup category of the National Startup Awards, hosted by Bank of Ireland and Enterprise Ireland, last Thursday May 17th at the Mansion House in Dublin.

Founded by CEO Dr Anita Finnegan, the company has developed a cybersecur­ity risk analysis system which provides an automated solution for implementi­ng and maintainin­g cybersecur­ity requiremen­ts across medical device products.

With a background in engineerin­g and quality management, Anita did a PhD in medical device

cyber security at DkIT, leading her to set up the company, which recently announced plans to

recruit 78 new staff over the next five year. At the moment, the company employs a staff of seven

between its offices in Dundalk and Boston.

The company has developed a cloud-based software system to protect medical devices against cyber hacking, a threat that is no longer confined to the realms of science fiction.

Nova Leah is no stranger to awards as the company was named Best Early Stage Company,at the Connacht & Leinster final of the 2017 InterTrade­Ireland Seedcorn Investor Readiness competitio­n and Anita was a finalist of the 2017 Women Mean Business Award.

Dummond House Garlic, Ireland’s first commercial growers of Irish Garlic, Elephant Garlic, Scapes and Asparagus won the bronze award in the Food and Drink Startup category
