- Nancy Byrne 1932-2018

NANCY Byrne, Castlering, Knockbridge, whose death has taken place, was a lady who was happiest at home, surrounded by her family, especially her two grand-daughters.

She passed away peacefully on 5

May, 2018, in Castleross Nursing Home, Carrickmacross.

Aged 86, Nancy was originally from Channonrock, one of three children of Brigid and Patrick (Paddy) Hoey.

She attended national school in Inniskeen before going on to the Vocational School in Dundalk.

Nancy worked in O’Rourke’s Mill, Inniskeen and met her husband Owen Byrne, a carpenter from Castlering, when he was doing work on her family’s home.

They married on 26 August, 1953, and had one daughter, Imelda.

Nancy subsequently went to work in Ecco in Dundalk where she remained until her retirement in 1992.

As pastimes, she enjoyed sewing and reading; while she relished time spent with her grand-daughters, Arlene and Karen, whom she adored.

She was happiest at home.

Sadly, Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Owen in November, 2002.

Her health had, unfortunately, deteriorated over recent years, the last four of which she spent in the wonderful care of Castleross Nursing Home.

Nancy was predeceased by her parents, and husband, Owen.

She is survived by her daughter, Imelda; grand-daughters, Arlene and Karen; son-in-law, Gerard Smyth; brothers, Anthony (Attie) and Pat Hoey; sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

After reposing in her daughter, Imelda’s home, Channonrock, on Sunday and Monday, her remains were removed on Tuesday, 8 May to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Louth.

The funeral Mass was celebrated by parish priest Fr. Seán McArdle who also delivered the eulogy.

Readings were given by nephew Anthony Hoey and niece Sandra McMahon, while prayers of the faithful were led by Caroline Dowdall, Rachel Ruth McMahon, PJ Hoey and Catherine Brennan.

Grand-daughters Arlene and Karen participated in the offertory procession, and Karen also gave a reflection.

Seán Kerr was soloist.

Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery. Nancy’s Month’s Mind Mass takes place on Sunday, 3 June next at 10am in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Louth.
