Ravens host their annual awards

-

ON Friday night I headed for the Lisdoo where the Ravens Basketball club were hosting their awards night. The club who are based in the Dundalk Sports Centre have teams for both sexes from ages 10 to 18s and play in the North East League.

I wasn’t too long in the door when I met up with Kasia and Lukasz Chmielecka from Avenue Road who were there to cheer on Franek who plays with the club. They were enjoying the company of Krzysztof and Monica Kantorska from Redbarns Road who were all up for making the best of the night with the young star.

Also at the same table I then got talking to Shirley and Richard Durkin from Blackrock who told me their daughter Eabha pays with the u14s and assured me it was going to be a fabulous night.

They were sitting beside Paidi Cassidy and Ania Chmielecka both from Pearse Park who were also there to cheer on Franek on the night.

Heading for another table I then caught up with Joanne and Denis Daly from Golden Ridge who told me that Jessica and Denis Jnr both play and they were up for making a night of it with Dearbhla and Gerry McGivern from Point Road who were with Naoise and Eabha. They were joined at the same table by Sylvia McCabe from Avenue Road with son Ryan and daughter Isabelle who was a major winner on the night. They were also enjoying the company of Sylvia’s sister Elaine McCabe and partner David Mulligan from Redbarns Road whose son Christian also plays and all parents were dead proud of their kids.

Making my way over to another table I met up with Gerry O’Sullivan from Dublin who was there with Naoise McGivern from Lower Point Road and Daisey Zhang from Bridge Street who told me her son Ni Hao just loves basketball.

After this I headed for another table where I got a word with Michael and Patricia Flynn from Point Road who were there with kids Conall and Odhrán who plays u12s and really enjoys it.

Making my way through the crowds I then caught up with Joe and Karen Gallagher from Bay Estate whose daughters Megan u14s and Emma u12s were being supported by their brother Tom who was also there on the night.

I then headed over for a quick word with Derek O’Donoghue from Lower Faughart who was with his wife Sharon and they were there to cheer on son Conn who is an u16s star.

Finally I caught up with the lady who just won the Best Club Supporter of the Year award Louise McMeel from Redbarns Road who was over the moon! She was with husband Hugh and the reason she won the award, daughters Chloe u12s and Sophie u10s and assured me it was going to be a marvellous night.

The Club is open to all ages and practise in the Dundalk Sports Centre from Monday to Fridays between 5.00pm and 7.00pm and all new members are welcome to join
