Louth Family Carers Group doing so much for families
THE Louth Family Carers Support Group held a very successful carers week event in the Westcourt recently, where a number of valid points were raised in connection with carers and their role.
It was opened by newly elected Mayor Frank Godfrey .He has been a friend of the group since they began about two and a half years ago.
‘We had a very good turnout for our day and had about 60 people attend. We had several other care giving groups who had information stands there. We had the Alzheimers day care centre, Dundalk/ Sage Advocacy support group, HSE home support team, Drogheda and District for older people, Louth physical and sensory disability team, the Red Cross and we finished with a tai chi demonstration,’ group treasurer William Mahony stated.
The Red Cross also launched their Carer of the Year awards and their new Carers App.
‘ The committee would like to thank Mayor Godfrey for opening our event and a big thanks to all our speakers and to the groups who had information stands. Our next event will be in the Barbican Centre on Saturday July 14 for a social coffee morning. All carers and others who just want to find out what we do as a group are welcome Gerry Leydon, Ann Shortt and Leonora Reilly of the local Alzheimers Society at the Louth Carers event.
to attend,’ William stated.
‘We meet once a month in the Barbican centre and we alternate meetings in Dunleer and Drogheda and Dundalk. We try to have a guest speaker at our meetings .’
