40TH ANNIVERSARY GET TOGETHER IN THE WINDSOR

-

ON Friday night I headed for the Windsor where the Dun Lughaidh leaving cert class of 1978 were having their 40th anniversary reunion and a good sized crowd had turned out specially for the occasion.

The night had been organised by Muirne Lawlor from Heynestown and Katherine Conneally-Sloane from Faughart who had been friends since they were two years-of-age, had grown up in two garda houses in Ard Easmuinn and decided that after the 25th anniversary, that the 40th would be a good time to get the gang back together.

I wasn’t too long in the door when I met up with Katherina who was having a chat with Anne Whelan from Tallanstown who had been at the 25th in Derryhale Hotel and was delighted to be catching up with all the girls again.

Not too far away I got a word with Deirdre Rice from Thistle Cross who was chatting to Roisin Finn from Bay Estate who told me they recognised everyone and they all looked fabulous.

After this I headed over for a chat with Brianán Kingham from Culloville who was talking to Marie-Therese McGeough from Annagassan who said they recognised all the faces, but wouldn’t be as quick with the names, but assured me it was going to be a nostalgic night for sure.

I then got talking to Claire Murtagh from Rassan who seemed to remember names better than faces but said it was ‘a ray of sunshine’ to catch up with all the girls again.

Making my way through the crowds I caught up with Patricia McShane from Newry whom I usually meet with her husband Oliver. She said that she recognised everyone and was really looking forward to the night with the rest of the girls.

Not too long later I then got taking to Anne Fagan from Avenue Road and Mary Morgan- Gregory from Dunleer who admitted that there were some girls she hadn’t seen since they finished their leaving cert 40 years ago, so it was going to be a fantastic night.

I met up with Sandra Fee from Windmill Court who was out for a night of it with Mary O’Hanlon from Point Road who admitted she recognised all but one of the girls and assured me it was going to be a most memorable night.

Not too long later I got a word with the two Catriona’s, Cooney from Faughart and Stewart from Cederwood Park who were joined by Claire Murtagh who told me they were two of the rowdiest girls in the town back when they were at school!

I then headed over for a chat with Angela Coleman from Hackballscross who said she recognised all her classmates and told me it was going to be an amazing night with them again.

After this I headed over for a chat with Briege Quigley from Ravensdale who was enjoying the company of Noelle Whelan from Palmerstown who told me she was only there because she had read about the night in The Argus! Need I say more, I think not.

Finally, before I departed I caught up with Sadie Ward from Blackrock and Adrienne Mathews from Priorland who were all set to make it a fantastic night, even if they couldn’t put the names to all the faces!
