-

DUNDALK Order of Malta were gifted a decommissioned ambulance by the National Ambulance Service recently.

The vehicle, a 2011 model which was set to be replaced with a newer model by the HSE, was a very welcome addition to the fleet which the Order of Malta currently have.

PRO David Caldwell explained ‘ The two ambulances we were using are both 2008 models, so this a more up to date vehicle that we were delighted to be given, with thanks to the National Ambulance Service.’

The new addition got its first outing at the the top of the table clash between Dundalk and Cork on Friday evening last.

It has been a busy summer for the Dundalk Order of Malta who volunteered recently at the GAA Ulster final in Clones between Donegal and Fermanagh.

First aid agencies such as the Order of Malta are in demand for large public events throughout the year, but particularly during extreme weather conditions such as the recent heatwave.

David explained that the Dundalk Order are currently in the process of repairing their new base beside the Realt na Mara school in Mill Street. ‘We moved recently from Hospitality House and are in the building beside the school which will be our new home. It does need some re-wiring and other work.’ Volunteers will be fundraising, and David added they are grateful to Dundalk FC for the bucket collection at the game on Friday.
