Emer launches her debut novel
Local author Emer Lawless has been hitting the road as she launched her debut novel ‘Our Diligent Souls’ with events in Dundalk Library, Carlingford Heritage and the Market House, Dunleer. She is hosting further launch nights in the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, Inniskeen on Thursday and The Barbican, Drogheda on Friday night.
The Dundalk author shared her thoughts about the writing process and read abstracts from her new novel, which is the culmination of a lot of hard work to make her dream come true.
Emer, previously wrote a number of dramas which were staged by youth theatre groups in Dundalk and also a volume of poems ‘Love, Honour & Negotiate’.
She has worked with community arts and women’s projects both locally and in Dublin but was always drawn to creative writing.
‘Our Diligent Souls’ is an epic tale in which Emer draws on her experience of living abroad and returning to live in Ireland. While most of the action takes place in Dublin, where the central character Mark navigates challenges in his work and personal life, there are scenes set in Dundalk which will resonate with local readers.
Emer is sharing her experi- ences of writing and publishing a book in a workshop in The Market House in Dunleer on July 28th from 10am to 5pm. The workshop is suitable for all ages, for budding writers at any stage of the process, and while the focus is on novel and short-story, it will inspire anyone thinking of writing.
