Simon appeal for suncream

-

THE effect of the heatwave has led to a public appeal being launched by Dundalk Simon Community for donations of water and sun cream.

The recent searing temperatures and extremely dry conditions has led to many living on the streets being exposed to the extreme weather, often causing sunburn and dehydration.

Appeals have gone out for vigilance to everyone who is exposed to the sun, but homeless people are among the most vulnerable to the conditions.

Taking to social media for their appeal, Dundalk Simon Community said: “With no end to this heatwave in sight, we are more than happy to accept any donations of water and/or sun cream here at Dundalk Simon Community.

A spokesperson went on to explained that the current weather is ‘almost as lethal to the homeless as the cold.’

The Simon Community are asking everyone to ‘please consider us if you have any water/sun cream to spare. We would be grateful for any donations.’

According to the most recent figures from the Department of Housing, there were 111 people homeless across County Louth at the end of May.

Bottles of water or any spare bottles of suncream can be donated to the Simon Community shop in Yorke Street, or indeed dropped into their premises on Jocelyn Street.
