Councillor calls for increase in garda resources
A call for more garda resources in Louth has gone out following a spate of criminal activity across the county.
Dundalk based Councillor Ruairí Ó Murchú raised concerns about a number of incidents, including a suspected arson attack and the discovery of suspect device in a built of housing development in Dundalk.
‘I have spoken to the Gardaí in relation to these issues and Gerry Adams TD has raised the issue of crime and intimidation in the area with the Justice Minister.
;There is a need for a strategic approach to serious and organised crime across County Louth,’ said Cllr. Ó Murchú
‘We will continue to demand greater resources for Gardaí in the county.’
He described an incident at Castle Park, where a man was forced to jump out of an upstairs window after an item was reportedly thrown into the house, as ‘completely unacceptable.’
He appealed to anyone with information to contact gardai
‘Sometimes the tiniest piece of information can be vital in an investigation. Those responsible for these attacks are utterly reprehensible. Their actions have resulted in one man being severely injured and a huge amount of people endangered.’
These attacks are only part of the serious crime being carried out across County Louth, according to the Sinn Féin councilor.
‘ There was a pipe bomb incident in Rockfield Manor on Friday 29th June and a shooting in Drogheda on the Cement Road a day after this arson attack, in which a 34-year-old man was seriously injured and hospitalised.’
He re-iterated calls for more garda resources to be made available to the Louth division in order to work on the prevention and indeed investigations of serious. cirmes
