Kenny the great

THURSDAY night’s victory over Levadia Tallinn confirmed Stephen Kenny’s status as the greatest League of Ireland manager in terms of European results. This was the 12th win he has experienced in Europe, overtaking Pat Fenlon’s previous record of 11 victories. The game was also Kenny’s 22nd in charge of Dundalk FC in Europe, equalling Billy Young’s status as the manager to lead a single club into Europe the most.

Landmark goal for Duffy

MICHAEL Duffy’s wonder strike against Levadia Tallinn was a landmark goal for a number of reasons. As well as being his 10th of the season, it was also his 20th goal for Dundalk and 40th in Irish football. While it was his first European goal for Dundalk, it was his third in Europe having previously scored for Derry City against Aberystwyth Town and Shakhtar Soligorsk in 2014. In breaking his European duck for Dundalk, Duffy has become the club’s 32nd different scorer in European competition.

Second in Europe

PAT Hoban marked the 275th appearance of his career on Thursday night with his second European goal for the club. He had previously scored in the 2-1 win away to Hajduk Split in 2014. He is now one of 10 players to have scored two goals for the club in Europe. He has now scored 22 goals in all competitions this season, two shy of his career best of 24.

Rogers closes in on record

GARY Rogers moved level with Owen Heary and Dan Murray on 37 European appearances on Thursday night. Ollie Cahill (41) is the only player in the League of Ireland to have played more games in Europe now than the goalkeeper.

10th assist for McGrath

JAMIE McGrath’s pass for Michael Duffy’s goal was his 10th assist of the season. Earlier in the game Sean Gannon also popped up with his third assist of the season with his cross for Hoban’s goal.

Rare victory over both legs

THURSDAY night’s 2-1 win for Dundalk was just the second time in the club’s history that they have won both legs of a European tie. The only previous occasion was in Stephen Kenny’s first European match in charge back in 2014 when they beat Jeunesse Esch home and away. While a rarity for Dundalk, it is also rare for League of Ireland club’s with Dundalk’s achievement just the 19th time an Irish club has managed to win both legs of a tie.

Debut for Kelly

GEORGIE Kelly came off the bench in stoppage time on Thursday night to make his competitive debut for Dundalk. His last game had been last month when he lined out for UCD against Longford Town. It was also a European debut for the 21-year-old striker. Meanwhile, Karolis Chvedukas also came off the bench to make his European debut for the club.
