Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place each Friday from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Please pray for Joe Duffy, Mill Road, Dundalk, Barney Farrell, Tankardsro­ck. Baptisms take place every second Sunday of the month at 10 a.m. Mass. Confession will take place after 6 p.m. Mass on Saturdays and before Mass on First Fridays. Readers List is available for collection in the sacristy. If there are any readers who have not given their email addresses to Kathleen McCreesh and would like to do so please submit them.

Dancing in the community centre continues this Sunday night July 29, with music by Just two. Declan Aungier plays on August 5, J& S Sound on August 12, Curtis Magee on August 19, Showbud on August 26. Dancing from 9 p.m. to midnight.

EMMETS GFC

The last league game is away to O’Raghallaig­hs on the second weekend in August where a win would secure a return to senior league level. The seniors are in the championsh­ip relegation play off after losing to Naomh Martin 3-11 to 1-9 on Sunday last. The juniors play at home to Finbarrs on Tuesday, August 7, at 7.30 p.m. with the junior championsh­ip is on Tuesday, August 14. Kilkerley Emmets Dowdallshi­ll ladies play in the senior championsh­ip at home to Cooley at 11 a.m. on August 5. The minors beat St Fechin’s 2-17 to 4-10 in Division 2 A Knockout and play the final against Cooley this Friday at 7 p.m. in Darver. On Monday next the under-14 team play away at Rock Road to O’in the championsh­ip at 7.30 p.m. The under-16 team play at home this Wednesday at 7.30 p.m. to Mattock Hunterstow­n in the championsh­ip and on August 8, play away to Gaels at 7.30 p.m. The under-12 boys league semifinal resulted in a home win over Dreadnots 1-5 to 1-4 and they play the final this Friday in Darver against Cooley at 7.45 p.m.

CANCER SOCIETY

The Irish Cancer Society is looking for volunteers in the Louth, Cavan, Monaghan and Meath areas to drive patients to and from their treatments in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, and the Dublin hospitals. Volunteer drivers will pick a patient up at the door of their home, drive them to the door of the hospital and then when finished treatment, pick them up and drop them home again. WMOF

Every Diocese in Ireland has been asked to organise their own opening ceremony for WMOF This will happen for us on Tuesday, August 21, in Armagh. An afternoon of music and sport in the city followed by a prayer service in St Patrick’s Cathedral involving all the choirs in the Archdioces­e. A bus will be provided.

There is an epitaph erected in S t Nicholas’s Cemetery in memory of Scotland’s national bard, which was originally erected by the Belfast Burns Associatio­n and the Dundalk Burns Club. Robert Burns wrote Auld Lang Syne, Awe Fond Kiss and My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose, to name just a few. Agnes Burns Galt and her husband William Galt lived at Lake View Cottage adjacent to Stephensto­wn Pond Nature Park in Knockbridg­e. The cottage is now known as the Agnes Burns Cottage and was built for the couple in 1817 by the local landlord Matthew Fortescue, owner of Stephensto­wn House and estate. He had commission­ed William Galt to come over from Scotland to build him two ponds, one of which is Stephensto­wn Pond. The couple lived at Stephensto­wn Pond from 1817 until Agnes died in 1834 and William in 1847. Both are buried in St Nicholas’s Cemetery in Dundalk. Belfast Burns Associatio­n has been the cross-border partners of Stephensto­wn Pond Trust since 1997 and were instrument­al in Phase 2 of the project, which was completed in 2000, when the Dairy Maid Coffee Shop opened its doors at Stephensto­wn Pond.
