Photo competion to showcase local area

-

THE Omeath District Development are running an amateur photography competition to showcase the outstanding natural beauty, and the wealth of character that is found around the beautiful Cooley Peninsula.

If you are a budding photographer or someone who likes to capture a moment on their phone, why not enter this competition and who knows, you might be one of the 12 lucky entrants whose photograph will feature in the 2019 Cooley Peninsula Calendar!! There will be 3 overall winners also, one from each of the categories listed below, who will receive a 1 day photography course with professional photographer Conor McEneaney, and a framed print of their winning photo.

There are three categories in the competition. Scapanna; This category is all about stunning scenery! Beautiful land, sea and sky scapes are in abundance all around the Cooley Peninsula! Capture the shadow of the setting sun as it slips behind the Cooley Mountains, delve deep into the peninsula’s heritage at Proleek Dolmen or frame the stunning vista from Flagstaff viewpoint! The opportunities for panoramic photography around the area are endless!

Fiadhúlra; Wildlife is what we are all about in this category! From the passing visitors on your garden bird feeders to the colonies of migratory waders on Carlingford Lough! Perhaps you can steal a moment in the private lives of the elusive Pine Marten who dwell in Foye Wood or illustrate the lazy afternoons of seals who haul out on the Black Rock! We want you to get the camera out and capture a moment in the wild lives of the creatures all around us!

Carachtair; The Cooley Peninsula certainly has it’s characters!! This category is asking for portrait photography that illustrates peninsula life through those who inhabit it! Perhaps children playing on the shore or a well-known face in the area – it’s up to you to illustrate in pictures the character of The Cooley Peninsula through its people!
