A man accused of assault and trespass charges has been refused bail.

Charles McDowell (27), 3 Mullaharli­n Park, Dublin Road, was remanded in custody to Cloverhill district court, via video link, on 3 October.

He is charged that on 24 September last at 84 Mullaharli­n Park, while appearing about to commit an assault on a male and female he produced a kitchen knife.

He is further accused of trespass with a knife at the same location.

Colette McCabe (36), also of 3 Mullaharli­n Park, and charged with the same alleged offences, was granted conditiona­l bail.

She must stay away from the alleged victims and their home, commit no crime, sign on every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at Dundalk garda station and observe a curfew between 11pm and 6am.

In adjourning the case to 16 January next, Judge Jones warned her if she breaches one of the conditions she will go into prison.

Each defendant was granted legal aid. address and got nothing in the post, just a fine to the new address and I thought there was nothing else to it,’ she said.

Her solicitor Conor MacGuill added she is a mother of three and hasn’t enjoyed good health. She is on disability benefit of €210 per-week and other benefits.

She accepts she was disqualifi­ed at the time, is not driving at the moment and is making no issue of the circumstan­ces.

Other associated charges were struck out and legal aid granted.
