KILCURRY TIDY TOWNS GROUP

The results of the National Tidy Towns competitio­n are out. We are delighted with our marks of 292 points, a 4.6% increase in marks on last year’s total. This is a big improvemen­t and we have received an Endeavour Award for this. We would like to thank everyone who helped to achieve this year’s results. We would like to thank our sponsors, people from the community who have donated funds, baked goods, plants and their time etc to help the Tidy Towns group, the CE and TUS workers who accomplish huge amounts of work, the litter pickers, watering group, the weeding group, Scoil Phadraig Naofa and the people who live in this area who keep their gardens and boundaries litter and weed free. YOGA CLASSES

Craft group meet up every Tuesday night 7.30pm to 9.00pm. All crafts welcome. Either bring your work with you or come along and we will show you how.

Kilkerley DANCING

Dancing in the Community Centre continues this Sunday night October 7, with music by Showbud. Checkers play on October 14, Blue Magic on October 21, Country Pride on October 28 and Brian McDermott on November 4. Dancing from 9.00pm to midnight.

RECENT DEATHS

Condolence­s are extended to Fidelma and Seamus Bellew and family, Ballinurd on the death of Fidelma’s mother Dora Soraghan, Prospect, who was laid to rest in Knockbridg­e Cemetery on Friday last, also to the families and relatives of Peggy Dolan, Thomastown who died on Saturday last and to the family and relatives of Eileen Meegan, Inniskeen who tragically lost her life in a road accident on Thursday last and whose funeral took place in Inniskeen on Sunday last..

EMMETS GFC

The minors give it their best shot on Sunday last against St Marys in the championsh­ip semi-final but the Ardee boys showed why they are favourites by many to win the title hitting 3-16 to 0-8 for Kilkerley Naomh Malachi. This team will be disappoint­ed with the result but every one of them must look forward to the next step which is adult team football and each of them is more than capable of getting a place on the club team at the next level. Well done to team and mentors.

The U15 boys lost away to Naomh Fionbarra 6-12 to 9-10 had a good win 9-13 to 2-13 over St Patrick’s. The U13 boys put in a good show away to Naomh Fionnbarra winning a tight contest 5-8 to 5-5.

The U12 Girls put in a great performanc­e in the championsh­ip semi final but still went down to Hunterstow­n.

Kilkerley Emmets Cairde Chill Choirle will launch soon so by joining up you can become a Cara to Kilkerley Emmets GFC.

BADMINTON

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place each Friday from 6.30p.m.-7.30p.m. Please pray for Peggy Dolan, Thomastown, Eileen Meegan, Inniskeen, Brendan Murtagh, Tankardsro­ck, who died recently. Baptisms take place every second Sunday of the month at 10.00am mass. Confession will take place after 6.00p.m Mass on Saturdays and before Mass on First Fridays. Kilkerley Knockbridg­e Parish Pastoral Council need new members from late next month so if you are interested in serving the 3 year term please contact Fr Gerry or Fr Paddy. The Lourdes Committee will have an open meeting on October 20, as part of efforts to revitalise interest and involvemen­t the committee and pilgrimage. If you wish to have your home blessed please contact Fr Gerry or Fr Paddy. Next weekend Saturday/ Sunday parishione­rs are invited to leave petitions for relatives affected by mental health issues, in a basket in the church. Mental Health day is on October 10 and a candle will be lit in the church at all masses in October for these petitions. At masses on the weekend of October20/21 parishione­rs can voluntary donate non- perishable goods which can be left in the church in aid of Dundalk Soup Kitchen. A representa­tive from the Soup Kitchen will speak at masses that weekend. Prayer for inner healing takes place in the church on Saturday October 21 from 2-6.00pm. The Church Choir is looking for more members so please contact Fidelma Bellew or the priests.

Louth BUILD UP TO FINAL

There is only one topic of conversati­on around the area these days and that is football. The flags are up the team are training hard and everyone is looking forward to October 14 when St. Mochtas take on St. Fechins in the Intermedia­te final which will be played in the Grove on that day.

The support for the team is great as the team play in an intermedia­te final for the first time since 1981 when they defeated St. Brides in the final in Ardee.

To help defray costs of the extra expenses the club are running a breakfast morning this coming Sunday October 7 in the club rooms. Admission €10 for adult and under 12 €5. The club would appeal to as many as possible to come and support this fund raising effort.

MINORS BUILD UP

Not only are our senior team in their final our minors have also reached the final of the minor championsh­ip when they play as a curtain raiser to the senior football final which will be played in the Gaelic grounds Drogheda and where their opponents will be St. Marys Ardee.

They had a good win last Saturday over the Martins in Ardee on a score line of 3-11 to 0-8 points. They were in control of the game at all times and we congratula­te the team and management on this tremendous achievemen­t. We are joined with the brides in this grade.

GIRLS GREAT SEASON

We have being asked by a number of people to again congratula­te our girls team and management who had a great championsh­ip run and were very unlucky not to progress further.

BEST WISHES

We send our best wishes to popular local girl Karen Kirk and Ciaran McHugh on their wedding which took place in The Church of the Immaculate Conception Louth last Friday September 28. Karen is the daughter of Tommy and Bernie Kirk, Channonroc­k. Ciaran is from Inniskeen. The chief celebrant was Fr. Sean McArdle |P.P. Louth.

We send the happy couple all the best for the future and many years of happiness. All who enjoyed the wedding really enjoyed the day.

Shelagh BARN DANCE

Naomh Malachi GFC annual big barn dance takes place this year on Saturday night, October 6th in the clubrooms.

Music on the night is by the brilliant Time Keepers, who will play a full range of your favourite country jiving numbers, with a nice mix of rock along the way!

We are expecting a fantastic nights craic, with a fun raffle on the night, with some great country themed prizes. Rumours afoot that even a calf will be up for grabs on the night!

Admission on the night is €10, and we hope that you all come along and make a fun start to our winter entertainm­ent programme in the club!

On Sunday last September 30, the U18 combinatio­n of Kilkerley/ Naomh Malachi were beaten in the LMFM Minor A Championsh­ip semi final by a very strong St Marys team. The final score was Kilkerley/Naomh Malachi 0-8 St Marys 3-16.

On Monday last, September 24, the U15 combinatio­n of Kilkerley/Naomh Malachi had a great win over St Patricks, final score Kilkerley/Naomh Malachi 9-13, St Patricks 2-13. Last Friday, 28th September, the U15 combinatio­n of Kilkerly/Naomh Malachi were beaten by Naomh Fionnbarra/ Lannleire. The final score in a very high scoring game was Kilkerly/ Naomh Malachi 6-12, Naomh Fionnbarra/Lannleire 9-10.

Last Tuesday, September 25, in the U13 Division 2, Kilkerley/ Naomh Malachi had a great win over Naomh Fionbarra. Final score Kilkerley/Naomh Malachi 5-8, Naomh Fionbarra 5-5. Well done to all the players.
