CODY McEneaney snatched a last gasp winner to give the hosts a share of the top spot in division 1 of the under-12 league and agonis ingly deprive their opponents of their first point of the season which would have lifted them off the bottom of the table.

The visitors to Glenmuir Park twice had fought back to level in a keenly contested tussle that looked destined to end in a draw with the strenuous efforts of Sean Ihemeje failing to yield the decisive goal that his determined incisive play deserved.

However, McEneaney was in like a flash as the ball broke off a Quay defender and surged clear into the box to place the ball wide of Mark Dawe. Referee Stephen Caldwell blew the full time whistle just seconds later.

It was tough on the visitors but for Sean Ihemeje especially it was a

result that he so much deserved as he strove so hard for it.

They were lucky on the double not to go behind in the early minutes when Denis Daly’s broke through and struck the foot of the post and the ball rolled right across the goal line and hit the bottom of the other post.

They took advantage when after a nice build-up TJ McCabe steered the ball to the Quay net when slipped through by eventual matchwinner Cody McEneaney. Ihemeje demonstrated the danger that he posed when Dawe pushed his long range shot past the post.

McCabe had a great opportunity to put his side two nil in front when he dragged his shot across the goal and wide.

A controversial goal was avoided when Lee Casey struck the Glenmuir post after he collected a ball which clearly was across the touchline and galloped free into the home box.

Stout defender Jamie Byrne enabled his side to win the ball inside the Quay half which resulted in Shay Rooney putting Casey in to equalize.

An off balance McCabe could have resorted Glenmuir’s lead when a kick out fell kindly to him off a defender in front of goal before the break.

However, Mathew Brogan emphatically put them back in front after a couple of teammates should have scored when Conor Norton opened up the Quay defence down the left and caused a hectic scramble in the visitors goalmouth shortly into the second period.

Quay quickly regained parity when Daly slammed the breaking ball to the home net and Molly O’Donoghue on her introduction helped galvanize the visitors but they were pipped at the post.
