GRA honour third anniversary of garda’s murder
THE murder of Garda Tony Golden was remembered on the third anniversary of his death by the Garda Representative Association (GRA).
Garda Golden, who had been a serving officer at Omeath Garda Station for a number of years was shot and killed on October 11th 2015.
He was killed in the line of duty, having accompanied a young woman who was leaving a violent partner back to her home to collect her belongings.
On the third anniversary of his death last week, the national representative body of the gardai posted a poignant tribute on their social media accounts:
‘ Tony Golden RIP: Three years ago today our friend and colleague had his life brutally taken. Gda Tony Golden will never be forgotten by his family, friends and all those who worked with him in the Force.’
‘It was an honour for his colleagues to have served with him. Repose en paix.’
Garda Golden, a father of three young children, was originally from Ballina in Co Mayo but had married and settled with his family in Blackrock.
On the day of his murder, he had been accompanying Siobhan Phillips to the home she shared with her partner Adrian Crevan Mackin at Mullach Álainn, Omeath when he opened fire on them, killing Garda Golden and leaving Ms Phillips with life changing injuries
Crevan Mackin then turned the gun on himself .
Garda Golden was given a state funeral on October 15th 2015 which took place in St Oliver Plunkett’s Church in Blackrock, when hundreds of people lined the streets to pay their respects to the late garda and his family and colleagues.
The murder of Gard Golden shocked the nation. Coming less than two years after the death of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe, who was also shot and killed whilst on duty, it was a devastating loss for Louth gardai.
