Record low now on live register in Dundalk

-

THE number of people on the live register in Dundalk fell to another record low in recent years, according to the latest statistics from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The figures show 3,766 signing on in Dundalk at the end of September, one of the lowest recorded since the financial crash a decade ago.

Although the live register is not a record of employment, it is an indicator of how many peo- ple are in receipt of benefits for unemployment.

Across Louth, the number on the live register has also fallen, with 8,058 claiming unemployment supports.

Drogheda’s location closer to Dublin appears to have impacted positively on employment options, as the live register continues to fall. There were 3,457 listed at the end of last month in the south Louth town.
