Winning start for Coláiste Lú debaters
Last Wednesday Coláiste Lú hosted the prestigious Gael Linn debating competition Comórtas Uí Chadhain.
Gaelcholáistí from Dublin, Meath, Tyrone and Monaghan travelled to Coláiste Lú’s new Marshes campus to compete in the first round of debates.
It was a victorious evening for the host school with the senior debating team winning a place in the next round of the competition.
Ellen, Lauryn and Rónán from sixth year in Coláiste Lú argued strongly in favour of the motion “Tá ról ríthábhachtach ag Uachtarán na hÉireann” (“The President of Ireland has a very important role”) and Gael Linn judges on the night praised their high-standard of debating at such an early stage of the competition.
‘I am delighted for the students, it is great to see their hard work recognised with progression to the next stage of the competition,’ said Neasa Ní Chonluain, who guides the Coláiste Lú debate team. Ní Chonluain added that ‘It was a particularly proud moment to win the debate on our first time acting as hosts for the competition.’
Congratulations Coláiste Lú and best of luck in the next round of debates.
