COMMUNITY SERVICEORDER

-

Edward Gaffey (46), Apartment 3, Churchview House, Hoeys Lane, has been found suitable for community service.

A report to that effect was before Judge Coughlan last week, and followed from the defendant admitting driving without insurance.

He was already disqualified from driving when stopped by gardaí at Slieve Foy Park on 30 April last.

The judge imposed a €10 fine, ten-year driving disqualification and sentenced Gaffey to 240 hours community service in lieu of five months imprisonment. court on 7 November.

Barrister Michael Miley said his client has never been in trouble before or since.

She has secured a job in Australia, has her tickets and is leaving on 8 December.

Judge Coughlan adjourned the case and remarked he is sympathetic to her situation.

Mark McCormack (23), 64 Lios Dubh, Armagh Road, has pleaded guilty to driving without insurance at Park Street on 31 December, 2017.

He has one previous conviction and was not disqualified at the time of this offence.

The judge heard he was driving a car ‘of very low value’ and that he has a young family and works in construction.

The defendant was fined €20 and disqualified from driving for two years.

Other associated charges were taken into consideration.
