RONAN Murray’s 53rd minute strike against Waterford FC on Friday night was Dundalk’s 79th goal in the league this season - surpassing the record of 78 for most goals in a league season which the club’s title winning side of 2015 achieved three years ago. Prior to that record being broken in a 4-0 win over Bray Wanderers at Oriel Park, the previous record of 77 had stood for 92 years. FRIDAY night’s 2-1 win away to Waterford FC was Dundalk’s 26th win in 34 matches this season. This is a new club record for most wins in a season, surpassing the total of 25 achieved In the club’s last title-winning campaign in 2016. PATRICK Hoban’s goal against Waterford FC on Friday night means he has now scored against every team in the league this season. Having broken the Premier Division scoring record with his late equaliser against St Patrick’s Athletic on Friday night, he has now taken his tally in the league this season to 27. Friday’s opener was the 15th time this season he has scored the opening goal for Dundalk in a game. Adding his two FAI Cup goals against Limerick FC and his strike in Europe against Levadia Tallinn, the strike now has 30 goals in all competitio­ns this season. FRIDAY night’s strike against Waterford was Ronan Murray’s (above) 11th goal in all competitio­ns for Dundalk this season but just his third in the league. Two of those goals have now come at the RSC, a venue that only he, Brian Gartland and Georgie Kelly of the current Dundalk side had scored at before Pat Hoban’s opener on Friday. Murray and Dean Jarvis were both making their 10th league starts of the season on Friday night. BRIAN Gartland led his side out through a guard of honour on Friday night for what was his 400th career appearance. There was also a 75th start for Dundalk for Patrick McEleney on the night. He marked it with a man of the match performanc­e. GARY Rogers has challenged his team-mates to lift the league trophy in style this Friday by beating his former club Sligo Rovers to set a new points record.

A win over Ger Lyttle’s men would leave the Lilywhites on 86 points, one more than the total achieved by the Bohemians side of 2008.
