A good day for St Gerard’s club

FOLLOWING on from the wet and cold of the even age groups last week in Darver, day two of the 2018 Louth cross country championsh­ips took place at DKIT in beautiful warm sunny weather conditions with the odd age groups last Sunday.

Representi­ng Dundalk St Gerard’s AC were Chloe Cheshire, Anna Duffy, Anna Kearns, Olivia Kissane, Seana Mooney, Ben and Adam Eccles, Shay Casey, Evan Hearty, Cathal Bastible Daithi and Tadgh Kearney, Doireann Conlon, Sadie Murphy, Sophie McGinnity, Hazel Larkin Ellie McVeigh, Lily McClean, Keeley and Leah Mooney, Sadhbh Brannigan, Nicole Mulholland, Tom Phillips, Ben McKeon, Tara OConnor, Ciara Cunningham, Abaigh Moonan, Nicola McElroy, Conall Quinn and George Maas

First into action were the girls U9, Chloe Cheshire ran a great race for third and Anna Duffy also in the medals just behind in fourth. Anna Kearns had a superb debut just missing out on a medal , but her day will surely come as she gains experience.

Olivia Kissane and Seana Mooney both ran strong races as well. For the boys Ben Eccles finished fast to snatch a medal with Shay Casey running a great race but just missing out by one place, Evan Hearty showed up really well just behind and Cathal Bastible and Daithi Kearney running good races.

In a highly competitiv­e U11 girls race Doireann Conlon lead the team home in fifth with debutante Sadie Murphy looking a natural and an athlete of immense potential only a few places back, Hazel Larkin and Sophie McGinity finished strong, while Ellie McVeigh, Lily McClean, Keeley Mooney Sadhbh Brannigan and Nicole Mulholland gave their all.

For the boys Tom Philips lead the crew home with another good run, Ben McKeon finished strong on a good debut and Adam Eccles left a bit up his sleeve for what must have been one of the fastest finishes of the day. In the girls U13 race Tara O’Connor was in fine form in 6th with the speedy Ciara Cunningham showing she also has stamina, and Abaigh Moonan and Nicola McElroy doing well for the team.

Leah Mooney ran another good race after a break to take 5th in the U15 girls race. In the boys U17 contest Conall Quinn ran another good race to lead home George Maas and Tadhg Kearney who both an solid races in a tough contest.

Training has now moved indoors on a Tuesday and Thursday in DKIT sport from 6:30 - 8:00pm
