MOCHTA’S SUCCESS

Last Sunday will go in history in the history of St. Mochtas G.F.C when in The Grove, Castlebellingham after a titanic struggle St. Mochtas defeated St Fechins on a score line of 1-15 points to 1-13points.

This game contained all that was good in Gaelic football which was played in a great spirit with plenty of scores great play and good honest play from both sides. It was a beautiful day and the pitch was immaculate which lent itself to a good game.

All of the team played as if their life depended on it and they were all stars. As we write this the celebrations are still in full swing and so they might as this is the first time since 1981 that the Seamus Flood cup came back to the village.

We congratulate all concerned with the team the Manager, selectors trainers but especially the players who give their all so as we won the championship. In accepting the trophy Captain Darren McMahon we are dedicating this win to former Mochtas player Keneth Meegan.

To make it a memorable day Man of the Match went to county star Declan Byrne. The one downer of the day was the unfortunate injury to Ciaran (Casey Byrne) who sustained an ankle injury. Everyone wishes Casey a speedy recovery and we wish him well.

UNDER 16’S BEATEN

In the curtain raiser our under 16 combination team who is joined with St. Josephs were beaten by a very good Cooley Kickhams team.

They were in the game up to half time but Cooley turned the screw in the second half and run out deserving victors. However this was a great achievement for the youngsters to reach the final and they can be proud of their season by reaching the final.
