-

FAUGHART Rovers played Ravensdale last Sunday in the North Louth Winter League at a sun soaked Lumpers Pitch.

The pitch was in great shape for the meeting of these two teams who share the ground as their home venue in the league. The game was very even in the early stages with neither side creating any clear cut chances.

The deadlock was broken in the seventeenth minute when Barry McClarnon broke through the Faughart defense and slotted past Nick Ragg in the Faughart goals. Ravensdale doubled their lead four minutes later when Matty Myles picked up a loose ball and hit a great strike from nearly thirty yards.

Faughart pulled a goal back on the half hour mark when some nice play in the middle of the park provided an opportunity to Enda Murphy who finished with a brilliant strike from just outside the box giving the keeper no chance.

The game was level five minutes before half time. Following a goal mouth scramble the ball fell to Faughart’s Gerry Kelly who found the net from 12 yards out. The first half finished with the team

Faughart began the second half brightly and took the lead in the fifty fifth minute when James Green who had recently returned from a loan spell with Bridgeside got on the end of a corner and prodded home from close range. Faughart extended their lead five minutes later when Enda Murphy ran through the Ravensdale defense and slotted past the keeper to score his second of the match.

Faughart made it 5-2 in the sixty eight minute when some good work from Aaron Rice allowed Aidan McCabe to get a shot off which found the back of the net.

Ravensdale piled on the pressure and were rewarded when Stephen Gartlan fired a low drive into the bottom corner of the net.

The deficit was reduced to the minimum in the eighty fifth minute when a cross from the left allowed Thomas Dullaghan to head home from six yards out. Ravensdale pushed hard for the equalizer in the last five minutes but Faughart just done enough to hold on for the win.

In other results Ramparts drew 2-2 with Carlingford and Bridgeside beat Castletown 6-0.
