CHOIR LAUNCH

- BY OLIVIA RYAN

The Redemptorist choir stunned thousands of novena goers with their performances during the St. Gerard Majella Novena.

Now, they are set to take on an altogether different challenge, the recording of their first CD!

The choir’s album debut was announced at the recent novena, with the help of local people being sought to choose some of the content.

Confirming the news on their Facebook page, a spokesperson said: ‘ We are a four part choir based in St. Joseph’s Redemptorist Church, Dundalk. We are planning on recording our very first CD in Summer 2019. We want you to help us decide which songs to choose and which songs you would like to hear us sing.’

An appeal also went out for new male members, with a spokesperson confirming that the female section is currently full.

However, any men interested in joining can make contact via the church office at the Redemptorist, or through the choir’s Facebook page.

The choir, which is led by director Trevor Clarke made headlines earlier this year when they performed the official hymn for the Papal visit, which went viral on social media

‘It is the first time we have used social media, and it was a bit of a test to see what reaction we might get,’ said the Director, adding that they were ‘delighted’ with the public response.

‘As a choir, we are completely hidden, go feet above the congregation, and as a result don’t often publicly celebrate what we do, so this was something a little different.’
