The first, which was widely reported on social media, involved a twelve year old girl who is a pupil at St. Louis school.

The school issued a statement saying: ‘ We were upset as a school community to hear about an incident that took place after school, outside the grounds, on the evening of Thursday 4th October 2018. In response we followed our agreed Code of Behaviour to ensure students were treated with fairness, care and respect.’

Meanwhile, gardai are also investigating an assault which took place on Jocelyn Street on Wednesday last. A number of school aged youths were also reported to have been involved in the incident.

Gardai have also issued a warning to retailers and businesses in the area that counterfeit €50notes are being passed. Two counterfeit notes were used as payment in Clanbrassil Street shops over the last week. A third was used at a premises on the Long Walk.

In a separate incident a man was struck on the head with a glass bottle by another man, as he attempted to take money out of an ATM at Clanbrassil Street. Gardai were on the scene, and arrested a man who was detained at Dundallk Garda Station.

Gardai are also investigating an incident where a woman had her handbag stolen from a child’s pram last week.

The woman was parked on Stapleton Place on Wednesday evening last, and was attempting to take a child out of a car seat when she noticed her handbag missing from the pram at the rear of the vehicle.

A handbag was stolen from a car parked at Rathcor N.S, Riverstown last week, when a woman went to collect a child from school. She returned to find the bag missing.
