The Local Authority Engineering Initiative Award is just one of twelve category awards which will be presented at the forthcoming Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards.

The awards, held in association with ESB, are presented annually in recognition of the achievements of engineers that have demonstrated exceptional engineering skills.

As well as identifying leaders within the engineering industry, the awards provide an opportunity to showcase and celebrate the invaluable contribution the engineering profession makes to society.

Engineers Ireland is also urg- ing the Louth public to now vote online for what they consider to be the best overall national Engineering Project of the Year before the midnight deadline of Friday, 2nd November.

In what is the ninth year of the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards, Caroline Spillane, Engineers Ireland Director General, highlighted the quality of entries:

‘ The Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards showcase and celebrate the pioneering and innovative work that is carried out by Irish engineers both at home and abroad.’

Ms. Spillane added: ‘ The Returning Vacant Homes to use for Social Tenants project by Louth County Council embodies real engineering initiative and skill and sets a very high standard in its category.’

‘I would encourage the Louth public to now get involved and to have their say in the Engineering Project of the Year Award category and to vote online for the engineering project they think has made the greatest impact on society over the last 12 months before the midnight deadline on Friday, 2 November.’

Pat O’Doherty, ESB Chief Executive, said: ‘ The strength and quality of the projects shortlisted embody real engineering excellence and ingenuity. They remind us once again of evolving nature of contemporary engineering and the impact that the engineering profession has on the daily lives of families across this island.

‘Engineers have a critical role to play in addressing the challenges facing the world today and they continue to make an incredibly valuable contribution to communities and economies worldwide. Engineers are problem solvers and innovators delivering solutions for society and this is why it is so important that we continue to promote engineering as a career choice.’
